West York Borough Police have charged four individuals with driving a stolen van through the front of a store and running off with an ATM machine.

The robbery occurred around 2:20 a.m. Aug. 16 at the York Fuel Stop in the 1100 block of West Market Street, police said in a news release.

A clerk told police that a van drove forcefully into the front of the store, causing major damage to the building and products. Two individuals removed the ATM machine and put it in the back of the van. They fled the scene, heading west on West Market Street, according to an affidavit of probable cause.

No one was injured, but a customer who was leaving the store told police that one of the suspects motioned as if he was going to hit him, according to police and the affidavit.

Police found the van, which had been stolen from DreamWrights parking lot, ditched along Hokes Mill Road and West College Avenue, the affidavit states. The ATM was gone.

Through surveillance video, police found that a blue Dodge Caravan with a Virginia registration drove past the store twice before the Ford van was stolen from DreamWrights, the affidavit states. It trailed the stolen van after the robbery.

The ATM machine, which contained a large amount of cash, was later recovered empty in Baltimore, the release states.

Police in Alexandria, Virginia stopped the Dodge Caravan several days later, and four occupants were inside, the affidavit states. Police obtained a search warrant for the vehicle and found ATM items that belonged to a gas station in Maryland.

The investigation involved three different states, the news release states. The department identified four suspects, and they were taken into custody with the help of law enforcement in Maryland.

The following individuals face multiple charges, including conspiracy to commit robbery and conspiracy − risking a catastrophe:

    • Jaquawon Matthews, 26, of Baltimore
    • Barry Diggs, 26, of Baltimore
    • Donnell King, 39, of Baltimore
    • Charonda Cook, 27, of Parkville, Md.

They are incarcerated in Maryland pending extradition to Pennsylvania, police said.

Matthews was charged in Maryland in 2022 in connection with a smash-and-grab ATM theft in the Towson area , WBAL-TV 11 reported.

Anyone with information about the case may contact police at (717) 854-1975.
