Northwest Triangle is now Heritage Crossings, a mixed-use community addressing demand

After 25 years, the Northwest Triangle development zone on North Beaver Street in York has a new partner and a new name, Heritage Crossings.

The first phase, which will include 139 residential units, was announced during a groundbreaking ceremony on the site on Oct. 10, 2024 with developer Statewide Partners.

Heritage Crossings “will offer a walkable mix of amenities … new modern residential living, shopping and dining options,” developer Josh Juffe said, adding that more details on phases 2-4 will be available in early 2025.

The land was once the site of an iron works, according to York Mayor Michael Helfrich, that provided the decorative facades of buildings like the Elks Club a block away and the French Quarter in New Orleans.

“This will complete the 25-year vision of the Northwest Triangle, “ Helfrich said, adding that talk of redeveloping the site started during the Robertson administration.

Kevin Schreiber, president and CEO of the York County Economic Alliance, added that 16,000 new housing units will be needed in York County to provide housing for an expected 5,000 new jobs in the area over the next few years.

He noted that while some of the people moving to York County are from Maryland, a majority are from surrounding Pennsylvania counties and that more people are moving from Lancaster County than York countians move to Lancaster County.

“Walkable communities are preferred by millennials and Baby Boomers, and there is an undersupply of quality housing units to meet that end, “ Schreiber said, adding, “please let me underscore and not understate the significance of this project bringing to fruition years of effort.”
