You've heard of Wawa's hoagies, Royal Farms' chicken and 7-Eleven's hot dogs, but have you ever tried gas station butter chicken or chicken biryani?

At Carroll Mart, located at the intersection of Country Club Road and South George Street, a small eatery was established inside the corner gas station, per the request of its customers.

For years, husband and wife owners Afazul Huq and Nadia Haque operated a Subway in the mini mart until the pandemic, when they decided to close the franchise stand and offer something different.

"Last year, we were thinking about it, to serve our type of food − because a lot of customers asked for it," Haque said.

Originally from Bangladesh, surrounded almost entirely by neighboring India, the cuisine is reflected on their menu. Now you can fill your gas tank and grab a platter of butter chicken, dal and samosas and wash it down with a mango lassi, or masala chai made by cooking down black tea with spices and milk.

Some of her customers, Haque said, have asked for halal options, and as a Muslim herself, she wanted to be able to cater to them as well.

Sandwiches including cheesesteaks, buffalo chicken and sweet onion teriyaki are also on the menu, as well as fried chicken and chicken wings. Indian dishes including dal makhani, a creamy lentil dish, paneer butter masala and potato curry can be made upon request.

Looking for a refreshing drink? Boba tea and fresh fruit smoothies are also on the menu.

Masala Express is located inside Carroll Mart located at 1000 S. George St., York, and is open daily from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
