Market Street ramp to southbound I-83 to close tonight for bridge repairs

The ramp from westbound East Market Street to southbound Interstate 83 will be closed this evening for replacement of a joint seal on the Market Street bridge, PennDOT has announced.

The work, weather permitting, is expected to be performed between 9 p.m. Wednesday and 6 a.m. Thursday, according to a news release.

Traffic to southbound I-83 will be detoured to the nearby Belmont Street entrance ramp, PennDOT reported.

If it rains, PennDOT reported, the work will be done during the same hours starting Thursday night.

Motorists can expect lane restrictions on southbound I-83 between Market and George streets during the next several nights as crews repair and replace bridge joints.

The work is part of a $10.1 million project that includes replacement of the Sherman Street bridge and the bridge that carries Eberts Lane over Mill Creek.
