York City fire officials and detectives are working to determine what caused the massive warehouse fire on Friday evening .

"It's under investigation," York City Fire Chief William Sleeger said.

Like the fire that destroyed an old furniture factory in Stewartstown in the spring , it could take time to determine the cause of the inferno at 951 Elm St, in York because of the significant damage, Sleeger said.

The Eureka Volunteer Fire Department in southern York County still has not announced the cause of the factory fire.

York City firefighters have remained at the scene of the warehouse fire since Friday evening as they extinguish hot spots, Sleeger said. The distribution warehouse was two blocks long, and it was full of items.

Appreciative of food and water donations

The York City Fire Department also appreciates the donations of food and water that have been made by businesses and private citizens, Sleeger said.

"We're greatly appreciative of everything everybody's doing for us," he said.
