    YAIAA 100: Here are the seniors, juniors and sophomores we can't wait to watch in 2024-25

    It might seem like we are in the heart of summer, but for high school athletes, fall is just weeks away.

    Media days are on the horizon. Heat acclimatization for football opens on Aug. 5, and the first official day of practice for fall sports is Aug. 12.

    That's just three weeks away.

    With that in mind, we are taking a look at the top 100 rising sophomore, junior and senior athletes we are most looking forward to watching in the 2024-25 school year. They are all-stars, players of the year or have won league, district or state titles.

    Some are on all-star lists for multiple sports.

    Seniors - Class of 2025

    Carson Albright, Spring Grove: After finishing second in the 100 breaststroke as a sophomore, Albright won the event in last year’s YAIAA swim meet.

    Kaelyn Balko, New Oxford: Balko is the returning piece of the reigning District 3 Class 3A girls’ tennis doubles champ and played on the Colonials’ squad that won the district team title.

    Drew Barshinger, Northeastern: Barshinger was the league’s baseball Div. I Pitcher of the Year after striking out 58 batters and giving up 21 hits to finish with a 1.56 ERA in more than 40 innings pitched.

    Ava Bentzel, Littlestown: Bentzel has been a league Div. III first-team girls’ soccer all-star for the past two seasons.

    Bella Boyce, Central York: The University of Kentucky commit was a Div. I first-team girls’ soccer all-star last season.

    Grace Bramble, York Suburban: Bramble led the Trojans to the District 3 field hockey tournament and shared the league’s Div. II Player of the Year honors as a goalie.

    Katie Bullen, York Catholic: The East Stroudsburg commit led the league in scoring this past season and was named the girls’ lacrosse Player of the Year, but is also a two-time basketball all-star.

    Lily Carlson, Bermudian Springs: Carlson bettered her height by a foot from her first PIAA Class 2A pole vault title to her second, and now has a chance to win the state title in two classes when the Eagles move to Class 3A this year.

    Emma Chataginer, Central York: Chataginer gets her hops in during the course of a year, first on the volleyball court where she is a two-time league all-star, and then in the high jump pit where she finished second in the league meet and tied for seventh at districts.

    Chloe Cheveaux, York Suburban: Chevaux rocks distance swimming events, finishing third in the District 3 Class 2A 200 free and second in the 500 free. She took 16th in the PIAA 500 free.

    David Clippinger, Red Lion: One of the top returning defensive players, Clippinger is a two-time league all-star and a GameTimePA all-star at linebacker.

    Jalen Cook, Dallastown: Cook is part of part of the Wildcats’ one-two punch at wide receiver. He is a first-team all-star on both sides of the ball, at wideout and safety, where he was a GameTimePA all-star.

    Owen Cromer, South Western: One of the top returning swimmers, Cromer was the District 3 Class 3A runner-up in the 50 and 100 free. He finished ninth in the 50 free in the state meet.

    Tatum Duckworth, South Western: Duckworth was named a GameTimePA first-team all-star after finishing her wrestling season 29-6 with second-place finishes at sectionals and regionals and eighth place at states at 124 pounds.

    Kaelyn Eaches, Red Lion: Eaches was among the league field hockey leaders in goals scored and shared the Div. I player of the year honors from her forward position. She will wrap up her high school career in the spring on the lacrosse field.

    Andrew Ekstrom, York Suburban: A Div. II all-star last season, Ekstrom finished fifth in the District 3 Class 3A golf tournament.

    Maddie Farace, Fairfield: Farace has led the Knights for the past two seasons at forward, earning Div. III first-team all-star honors both times.

    Alexis Federline, Dallastown: Federline is an all-star in two sports. She’ll start her final year on the Wildcats’ powerful cross country team and finish on the lacrosse team, where she was the league’s most valuable attacker.

    Sean Filipovits, South Western: Filipovits was a two-time winner in last year’s YAIAA swim meet, claiming the 100 fly and back races. He finished 12th and seventh in the races, respectively, at districts.

    Molly Fleming, Delone Catholic: One of the top Div. III girls’ soccer players in recent years, she was a first-team all-star last season and made second team as a sophomore.

    Derek Freeman, Bermudian Springs: Freeman finished sixth in the league’s Class 2A golf tournament and 12th in the district tournament to be named a Div. III all-star.

    Jack Gautsch, Bermudian Springs: A GameTimePA honorable mention selection, Gautsch can move his team forward at wide receiver, where he was a first-team all-star, or pin the opposition deep as punter, where he was an honorable mention all-star.

    Tyler Good, Red Lion: Volleyball fans will have to wait until the end of the school year to see Good in his element. The outside hitter is a two-time first-team all-star.

    Tate Greenplate, York Suburban: A Div. II all-star last season, Greenplate will be counted on to lead the Trojans this year.

    Mason Harvey, Red Lion: Harvey is just 12 wins away from passing 100 for his wrestling career. He went 30-9 at 133 pounds as a junior, finishing second at sectionals, fourth in the District 3 Class 3A tournament and won a match at states to be named a GameTimePA first-team all-star.

    John He, Central York: He made the jump from defensive specialist as a sophomore to league player of the year as an outside hitter in his junior season, leading the Panthers to a district title and the state semis with 130 kills and 33 aces.

    Elijah Hewitt, Northeastern: Hewitt is a two-time GameTimePA wrestling first-team all-star and takes an 88-22 record into his final season. He went 32-7 at 121 pounds as a junior, finishing as the District 3 Class 3A runner-up and winning one match at states.

    Luke Hoffman, West York: Hoffman finished in the top 20 of the league golf tournament and was named a Div. II all-star last season.

    Caleb Hogan, Dover: Hogan was named a Div. II all-star after finishing as the runner-up in the league cross country meet.

    Angela Imorhoa, York Suburban: Imorhoa went 3-3 in the state tournament at 170 pounds to finish sixth, after third-place finishes at sectionals and districts. She finished the season 29-14 to be named a GameTimePA first-team all-star.

    Megan Jacoby, Delone Catholic: Jacoby will tune up for the basketball season on the volleyball court. After that, the two-time Div. III Player of the Year will try to lead the Squirettes back to the district final for the fifth straight year.

    Meredith Keefer, Delone Catholic: Keefer was one of the top hitters in the league last year, leading the Squirettes to the District 3 Class 2A tournament. After being named a first-team all-star as a sophomore, she was the Div. III Player of the Year last season.

    Parker Keiser, Red Lion: Keiser was named a Div. I cross country all-star after finishing fourth in the league meet and 35th in the District 3 Class 3A meet.

    Nate Keller, Bermudian Springs: Keller was named a Div. III baseball first-team all-star last season, a year after sharing the division’s top pitcher honors.

    Sarah Koller, York Suburban: Koller is the reigning District 3 Class 2A 200 IM champion after finishing third in the league meet. She also finished fourth in the YAIAA 100 fly and eighth in the district 50 free.

    Hayden Koons, Dallastown: Koons has multiple YAIAA Class 3A tennis singles titles under his belt and has one more chance to improve on a pair of top-three finishes in the district tournament.

    Jayda Koontz, South Western: Koontz has been the top pitcher in the YAIAA Div. I for the past two seasons. She led the Mustangs to a District 3 Class 5A title and a spot in the state semifinals that earned her a first-team all-state nod.

    Reed Krosse, Dallastown: Krosse became a multiple Div. I golf all-star after top 10 finishes in the YAIAA and District 3 Class 3A tournaments.

    Nolan Kruse, Delone Catholic: Kruse was named the Div. III first-team all-star placekicker after nailing 36 of 38 point-after attempts and 4 of his 5 field goal attempts with a long of 32 yards and averaging 47 yards per kickoff.

    Olivia Kury, York Catholic: Kury won the YAIAA Class 2A girls’ golf title as a junior and finished third in the District 3 tournament to be named a Div. III all-star for the second straight year.

    Connor Lawrence, Red Lion: Lawrence played short when he wasn’t pitching and followed up being named a Div. I baseball first-team all-star as a sophomore with being named the division’s player of the year as a junior. He hit .345 with 13 RBIs.

    Dylan Logue, Kennard-Dale: Logue was among the boys’ soccer league leaders with 15 goals and seven assists for 37 points to earn first-team all-star status for the second year.

    Praise Matthews, Dallastown: Matthews was named a Div. I girls’ basketball first-team all-star as the Wildcats’ top scorer at nearly a dozen points per game, leading them to the league title and a District 3 Class 6A runner-up finish.

    Tavian McAuliffe, Biglerville, sr.: A GameTimePA football honorable mention selection, he earned a Div. III first-team all-star nod at wide receiver and was second team at safety and honorable mention at kick returner.

    Chloe Moore, York Suburban: Moore had quite a junior season with a District 3 Class 3A title in the 50 free (11th place at states) and third-place finish in the 100 back, which she won at the league meet. She also won the 200 IM title in the league meet.

    Madeline Murphy, York Catholic: Murphy was the Div. III cross country Runner of the Year for the second straight year after she successfully defended her District 3 Class A title. She finished 14th in the state meet and sixth in the league meet.

    Ben Natal, Central York: Natal is the top returning scorer for the defending PIAA Class 6A boys’ basketball champions at just under 16 points per game. He is a two-time Div. I first-team all-star.

    Daniel Naylor, Red Lion: Naylor is one of the top runners in the league from 800 meters to 5K. He was the Div. I cross country Runner of the Year after winning the league meet and finishing 18th in the District 3 Class 3A meet. In the spring, he won league titles at 800 and 1,600 meters, where he finished fifth at districts.

    Neil Oestereich, York Suburban: Oestereich was named the Div. II Runner of the Year during the cross country season after finishing eighth in the league meet, 20th in the District 3 Class 3A meet and 56th in the state meet. On the track, he finished fourth in the league 3,200 meters.

    Matthew Parker, Central York: The Penn State preferred walk-on can handle any of the kicking duties on a football field. A GameTimePA and all-state first-teamer, he averaged 41 yards per punt with a long of 64 and made 10 of 13 field goals with two over 50 yards.

    Lucy Peters, Bermudian Springs: An all-star hitter on the volleyball team, Peters does her best work on the basketball court. She was among the top scorers in the league at better than 15 points per game, earning her a spot as a Div. III first-team all-star.

    Ava Peterson, Biglerville: Peterson was one of the top field hockey scorers in the league with nearly 30 goals. The forward was named a Div. III first-team all-star for the second straight year.

    Lydia Powers, York Suburban: Powers averaged just over a dozen points per game and is the top returning scorer for the defending District 3 Class 5A girls’ basketball champions. The forward was named a Div. II first-team all-star.

    Griffen Ridler, Northeastern: Ridler was named a Div. I cross country all-star for the second straight year after finishing fifth in the league meet, 19th in the District 3 Class 3A meet and 39th in the state meet.

    Ben Rill, Central York: The 6-foot-8 Rill scored just under 15 points per game, but also hit in the 20s a handful of times for the defending PIAA Class 6A boys’ basketball champion. He was named a second-team all-star a year after making the first team.

    Claire Roberts, Biglerville: Roberts led a defense that held opponents to a goal per game and helped the Canners to a share of the Div. III field hockey title. She was named a first-team all-star for the second straight year.

    Anya Rosenbach, New Oxford: Rosenbach is going for a rare YAIAA Class 3A girls’ tennis sweep. The defending District 3 champ has won the league tournament every year and has led the Colonials to a pair of District 3 team titles.

    Michael Scott, Dallastown: Scott has been an all-star in three sports throughout his high school career, but fans will only get a chance to see him play football this year. The all-state athlete will graduate early and enroll at Arizona State in January to get in some early work at wide receiver. He will miss basketball and track and field seasons. He finished third in the long jump in the district and state meets.

    Division I bound: Steeler legend sways Dallastown receiver's college pick

    JD Sieg, Delone Catholic: Sieg was named a Div. III first-team selection on both sides of the football, at offensive tackle and defensive end. He was also named a GameTimePA honorable mention. In the spring, Sieg handles the always tough catcher duties, and was named a Div. IV baseball first-team all-star.

    Nick Snyder, Central York: Snyder picked up first and runner-up finishes in the YAIAA swim meet. He won the 100 back and placed ninth in the District 3 Class 3A meet and finished second in the league 200 IM, 17th at districts.

    Riley Stigler, Hanover: Stigler scored just over 12 points per game and knocked down nearly 60 3-pointers to be named a Div. III girls’ basketball first-team all-star for the second straight year. Before she takes to the hardwood, she’ll wrap up her volleyball career, where she was an honorable mention all-star last season.

    Saxton Suchanic, Central York: It’s hard to build up defensive stats when teams don’t throw in your direction, but that’s what happened to Suchanic last year. He didn’t allow a touchdown from his cornerback spot, which earned him an all-state selection, a spot on the GameTimePA first team and a scholarship to UConn. He’s also a defensive stopper on the championship boys’ basketball team.

    Decision made: Central York defensive star will make next football home in Connecticut

    Logan Sumner, Kennard-Dale: Sumner earned Div. II Player of the Year honors as the goalkeeper after snaring 13 clean sheets and having a .608 goals-against average. A first-team all-star as a sophomore, Sumner led the Rams to the district semifinals and the state tournament.

    Andrew Unglesbee, Susquehannock: Unglesbee struck out 38 and had a 2.38 ERA for the Div. II champion Warriors and was named the division’s pitcher of the year.

    MJ Vottero Jr., West York: A first-team all-star as a sophomore, Vottero followed that up by being named the Div. III baseball Player of the Year as a junior. He had a .444 batting average with 15 doubles, 13 RBIs and a 2.25 ERA with 86 strikeouts.

    Carter Wamsley, Eastern York: A two-time Div. II first-team all-star, the 6-6 wing was the top scorer for the defending District 3 Class 4A champions at nearly 16 points per clip.

    David Warde, York High: Warde is a league all-star in two sports but has done his best work on the football field. The wide receiver and corner back is a two-time Div. I first-team all-star and GameTimePA honorable mention selection. He earned a second-team all-star nod in basketball this past season.

    Juniors - Class of 2026

    Shavane Anderson, York High: His career started with a 75-yard touchdown run on opening night and ended with more than 1,300 yards rushing. He was a Div. I and GameTimePA first-team all-star.

    Medal haul: Spring Grove's Ella Bahn snares silver, 2 golds in Day 2 action at PIAA championships

    Ella Bahn, Spring Grove: Bahn has done more in her first two years than most athletes do in four. She has seven league, six District 3 Class 3A and three PIAA track and field titles in the 800 meters, 100 and 300 hurdles and high jump, plus silver and fifth-place state medals. And she’s a two-time first-team all-star in cross country and dives in the winter.

    Brayden Billman, New Oxford: Billman jumped onto the athletic scene on a football team full of senior stars to be named a Div. II second-team all-star and GameTimePA honorable mention at safety. But it was in the spring where he really made his mark. He won league titles in high and triple jumps and the District 3 Class 3A triple jump title. He finished third in the district high jump and 12th in the state triple jump.

    Garreth Calder, Northeastern: Calder has a pair of District 3 Class 3A long jump medals, third place as a freshman and sixth place last year. He finished second in the event at last year’s league meet.

    Branson Diller, Bermudian Springs: Diller struck out 26, threw one no-hitter and finished with a 1.48 ERA to be named Div. III baseball Co-Pitcher of the Year.

    Sheila Driscoll, York Catholic: Driscoll was part of the Irish’s one-two District 3 Class A finish. After taking seventh in the league meet, she finished second at districts and 55th in the state meet to be named a Div. III cross country all-star for the second straight year.

    Shelby Gipson-McDonald, Dallastown: Gipson-McDonald went 19-10 in her first wrestling season to win a sectional title at 170 and be named a GameTimePA first-team all-star.

    Ashlynn Gorsuch, Littlestown: Gorsuch was the starting softball pitcher for the first half of the season and then saw limited action for the second half with an arm injury. She finished with 116 strikeouts and a 2.00 ERA to be named the Div. III Pitcher of the Year.

    Eva Hollabaugh, Biglerville: Hollabaugh was a two-sport all-star as a sophomore. She recorded nearly 50 saves to be named to the Div. III girls’ soccer first team as a goalkeeper, and averaged nearly 10 points per game to make the girls’ basketball all-star team as an honorable mention.

    Dallas Inch, Central York: Inch is a two-time Div. I golf all-star who finished second in the league tournament and fifth at districts.

    Lawson Leeper, Dover: Leeper is a two-time Div. I golf all-star who finished tied for 11th in the league tournament and 15th at districts.

    Carly Louey, South Western: Louey plays two sports, and she’s among the league’s best in both. She was the league’s top scorer in soccer by more than a dozen goals to earn Div. I player of the year honors, and among the top scorers in basketball with nearly 14 points per game to be named a first-team all-star.

    Landon Mabe, Dover: Mabe is a two-time Div. II boys’ soccer all-star at goalkeeper. He was named to the first team as a freshman and made second team last year with more than 150 saves.

    Kai MacLennan, Central York: MacLennan finished as the YAIAA boys’ tennis Class 3A singles runner-up and advanced to the District 3 tournament.

    Alivia McCaskell, Central York: McCaskell averaged 10.5 points per game and led the Panthers to the league tournament. A knee injury kept her out of the postseason, but not the awards, where she was named the Div. I Player of the Year.

    Sydney McCleaf, Biglerville: McCleaf went 14-2 with 69 strikeouts and a 2.635 ERA to be named the Div. IV softball Pitcher of the Year.

    Colbie McKenna, York Suburban: McKenna had more than 200 kills as an outside hitter and 200 digs to lead the Trojans to an unbeaten regular season. She was named the Div. II Player of the Year after making first team as a freshman.

    Cambria Rice, York Suburban: Rice was among the girls’ lacrosse scoring leaders with more than 100 goals scored to earn the title of YAIAA Most Valuable Midfielder.

    Liam Rosenbach, New Oxford: Rosenbach won a pair of league swimming titles, claiming the 200 and 500 free races. He finished 22nd in the District 3 Class 3A 200 free and 20th in the 500 free.

    Hayden Yacoviello-Andrus, Bermudian Springs: Yacoviello-Andrus is a two-time GameTimePA wrestling first-team all-star. He has 80 wins entering his junior season after going 35-6 at 133 pounds. He was second in the District 3 Class 2A tournament, third at regionals and went 2-2 at states.

    Sophomores - Class of 2027

    Taryn Ashenfelter, Kennard-Dale: Ashenfelter blew onto the softball scene with a .455 batting average with 18 RBIs and had a 2.10 ERA with 107 strikeouts to earn Div. III Player of the Year honors.

    Pyta Billet, York Suburban: Billet followed runner-up finishes in the 50 and 100 free races at the league swim meet with a District 3 Class 2A silver in the 50 free and gold in the 100. She finished 15th and seventh, respectively, in the state meet.

    Wesley Crumling, Eastern York: Crumling is the YAIAA boys’ tennis Class 2A singles runner-up, but with the winner graduating, he’s the top returning player in the tournament.

    Neila Granger, Dallastown: In the fall, Granger won the league cross country meet, finished seventh in the District 3 Class 3A meet and 31st in the state meet to be named the Div. I Runner of the Year. In the spring, she was fourth in the 800 meters and won the 1,600 meters at the league meet. She finished 14th in the district 1,600 meters.

    Gavin Green, Delone Catholic: Green was named a GameTimePA wrestling first-team all-star after going undefeated in the regular season at 127 pounds. He won sectional and District 3 Class 2A titles, took second at regionals and went 2-2 at states to finish the season 35-3.

    Elijah Henning, Spring Grove: Henning took the league diving title from his brother, and finished sixth in the District 3 Class 3A meet and 13th at states.

    Kenna Hoffman, Dallastown: Hoffman went 24-13 at 130 pounds to win a sectional title and finish fourth at districts to reach states and be named a GameTimePA first-team all-star.

    Sophia Hunter, Northeastern: Hunter won league swim titles in the 200 and 500 free, then finished eighth in the District 3 Class 3A 500 free.

    Ava Metzler, Northeastern: Metzler won the YAIAA long jump title and finished sixth in the District 3 Class 3A meet. She also finished third in the league triple jump.

    Paytyn Plank, Biglerville: Plank was the Div. II girls’ tennis Player of the Year after winning the YAIAA Class 2A singles title. She reached the quarterfinals in the District 3 Class 2A singles tournament and again in the doubles tournament.

    Baileigh Stetter, Delone Catholic: Stetter was a Div. II girls’ tennis first-team all-star in both singles and doubles after finishing third in the YAIAA Class 2A singles tournament and reaching districts. She paired with Ella Knox to win the league doubles title and finish as the district runner-up.

    Caleb Tyler, Delone Catholic : Tyler lost just once in the regular season at 215 pounds to earn GameTimePA first-team all-star honors. He won sectional and District 3 Class 2A titles, finished fifth at regionals and went 2-2 at the state meet to finish the season 37-5.

    Ella Wetzel, Susquehannock: Wetzel was named the Div. II softball Pitcher of the Year after earning 11 wins with 127 strikeouts and a 3.30 ERA.
