WellSpan donates land for new firehouse, park in Spring Garden Township

WellSpan Health has donated a 5-acre parcel for Spring Garden Township to build a new fire station and recreational area, according to a news release.

The new firehouse, a public park and recreational facilities will be built on the land along Indian Rock Dam Road, the release states. The parcel is adjacent to WellSpan Health's offices and an alternative helipad, which will continue to operate. It is close to the Rutter's store and York College campus.

"This donation will not only improve emergency services response times locally, but it will also help to expand a community gathering place that is a focus of our mission at WellSpan: promoting lifelong wellness," Alyssa Moyer, vice president of WellSpan Health and president of WellSpan York Hospital, said in the release.

Township officials have been searching for a spot on the western side of the municipality for years to build a new, modern firehouse, which will replace the Grantley Fire Station, the release states.

"The Spring Garden Township Board of Commissioners is thankful to WellSpan for this generous donation and is excited to begin planning for the construction of the new fire station to replace the Grantley Fire Station," board president Daniel Rooney said in the release.

The staff of York Area United Fire and Rescue is grateful to the township commissioners and WellSpan "for coming together on this project to help us continue providing excellent service and care to our township residents," Fire Chief Daniel Hoff said in the release.
