A near record crowd attended the Yorktown Independent School District meeting Monday, March 25 for their regular meeting. The board was expected to make a final decision regarding the highly debated four day school week, but tabled the decision after a closed session.

The meeting was called to order by President Ben Hahn and was followed by the presentation of Elementary UIL awards and the Wildcats of the Month. This was followed by the recognition of the Boys and Girls Regional Powerlifting Powerlifters and the Boys and Girls All District Basketball players.

The Open Forum allowed for seven speakers to voice their opinion regarding the proposal to convert the YISD school calendar to a 4 day week. None of the guest speakers were in favor of the four day school week.

Former YISD teacher, Caleb Gips, said,”I feel like this is a solution in search of a problem.”

Another concerned citizen stated, “I wish this many people would show up for all of the meetings, not just when there is a hot topic.”

Debbie Sexton of Region 3, led a review of last month's work, including the time spent on Student Outcomes.

Information items werereviewedandaction items were approved. The board discussed the possible purchase of 147 S. Hoppe St and 149 S. Hoppe St owned by Richard Deal and Jacob Deal.

The Board moved to Closed Session to consider the property purchase, discuss the employment of a public officer or employee and to discuss and contract recommendations.

Upon returning from Closed Session, the Board voted to authorize Superintendent Nixon to enter into a real estate purchase agreement, for an amount not to exceed fair market value.

The Board also voted to table the anticipated vote regarding changing the Academic Calendar to reflect a 4 day school week.

The motion was made to return on April 8 for their next scheduled meeting and the meeting was adjourned.
