    Power outages: Lower Hudson Valley customers left in dark after Wednesday storm

    More than 600 local utility customers were without power Thursday evening after a thunderstorm with strong winds ripped through the area Wednesday night.

    According to utility companies' maps and lists, 68 NYSEG customers in Westchester were without power as of just before 6 p.m. on Thursday, with the highest total being 44 in Yorktown, followed by 20 in Bedford. In Putnam, there were 27 outages.

    In Rockland County, there were 468 r eported outage s via Orange & Rockland with 173 in Orangetown and 68 in Clarkstown, as of shortly before 6 p.m. A little more than 9,000 outages were reported in Rockland in the 10 p.m. hour Wednesday after the storm hit.

    O&R said it restored service to approximately 32,301 customers overnight. The utility also serves Orange County in New York and parts of New Jersey's Bergen and Passaic counties. The utility said in a news release it is using an additional 350 mutual aid workers Friday to respond to the remaining outages.

    In Westchester, Con Edison reported 47 customers without power as of shortly before 6 p.m. of the more than 368,000 customers in the county that the utility serves.
