Voters in Yorktown hit the polls for a special election to fill a vacant seat on the Town Council. This is the second special election held in the town this year, following the sudden death of Town Supervisor Ed Diana in January. Donna Diana, the widow of the late supervisor, is facing off against former Town Supervisor Susan Siegel for the seat. Ed Diana died of an apparent heart attack less than a week after taking the oath of office in January. Republican Ed Lachterman, who served on the Town Council, was appointed acting supervisor after Diana's death. In April, Lachterman was elected to the position in a special election. The Town Council then called for another special election to fill the vacant seat on the council left by Lachterman, as there are three and a half years remaining in the term. Between the special elections, June primaries, the school budget vote and November's general election, Yorktown voters will head to the polls five times this year. However, some voters say they don't mind the frequency. "There's been a lot of changes, a lot of things going on in Yorktown, so it's good that we have a vote and we're able to cast our views," said Ilene Pupczyk, a Yorktown resident. "
