Doctors say cutting rural obstetrics poses risks to women, babies
The Olney Hamilton Hospital board of directors confirmed their decision to build a new hospital with no obstetrics services at their June 28 meeting, a plan that doctors say will create a dangerous “maternal care desert” for Young County women and their babies. OHH is the only hospital in Young County that provides obstetrics care.
GOP sets priorities at state convention
Young County Republicans who attended the state GOP Convention in San Antonio this month helped decide on eight legislative priorities. County Treasurer Kyle Milam, the former chairman of the Young County Republican Party, attended the convention and said he approved of most of the priorities for the Texas Legislature’s 89th session, starting in January, but had reservations about a plan to prohibit taxpayer-funded entities from lobbying the legislature.
POOHS entertain at Cub Center with Flag Day tunes
The Young County Senior Cub Center [YCSCC] hosted a special flag ceremony in honor of Flag Day. Olney High School Band Director Rodney Bennett along with wife, Marilyn, and members of the Pride of Olney High School (POOHS) marching band played patriotic tunes for attendees of the Cub Centers lunch and Flag Ceremony celebration. The ensemble played four selections: “Yankee Doodle Boy,” “God Bless America,” “This Is My Country” and “Stars and Stripes Forever.”
