YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) — Jury selection is underway in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court in the trial of a man accused of a 2016 shooting death.

Daundre Turner , 26, was indicted in April 2023 for the March 16, 2022, shooting death of Omar Croom, 22.

Croom was found shot to death inside an SUV at Oak Street Extension and Early Road.

Also indicted for Croom’s death was Ranee Fitzgerald, 23, who faces charges of involuntary manslaughter and obstructing justice for Croom’s death. A trial date has yet to be set for her case.

Turner is charged with aggravated murder, murder, and aggravated robbery.

Judge Maureen Sweeney is hearing the case.

At Fitzgerald’s preliminary hearing in municipal court after she was arrested, city police Detective Sgt. Jessica Shields, who heads up the department’s Special Victims Unit, said she found a link between Fitzgerald and Croom’s death while investigating a series of sexual assaults on the East Side.
