YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – A man who is passionate about revitalizing the city has been appointed to the Youngstown Metropolitan Housing Authority (YMHA) Board of Commissioners.

Ian Beniston, executive director of the Youngstown Neighborhood Development Corporation (YNDC) , will fill the seat left by Brigid Kennedy, who resigned from the board in April.

He will complete the remaining five-year term, which expires in November 2027.

The YMHA is a housing organization dedicated to creating and managing healthy and enriching housing environments in Mahoning County.

“Ian’s reputation in the Youngstown/Mahoning Valley in housing and getting projects completed is second to none. He has done such a fine job with YNDC and the redevelopment of the Glenwood Avenue corridor, that I am looking forward to what he can do on a larger scale with the YMHA,” said Judge Robert Rusu, who appointed Beniston.

Beniston is currently a member of ACTION, the Community Corrections Association and the Ohio Community Development Corporation Association Policy Committee.

He has a Master’s Degree in City and Regional Planning from Ohio State. He’s also certified by the National Development Council as a Housing Development Finance Professional.
