Penguin City Brewing Co. co-owner elected to Ohio brewers board

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) — A member of the Youngstown community has been elected to serve on the board of the Ohio Craft Brewers Association.

Aspasia Lyras, Co-Owner of Penguin City Brewing Co., was elected Wednesday as one of seven representatives to the board of directors, according to a release from the organization. Lyras was elected to her first term on the Ohio Craft Brewers Association board, assuming an at-large seat vacated by internal promotions.

Founded in 2007, the Ohio Craft Brewers Association is a nonprofit guild that exists to promote,
preserve, diversify and unify Ohio’s craft brewing industry.

“I am completely overjoyed to be elected to sit on the board with such an influential group and to be the first brewery owner from Valley to be on the board is a true honor,” Lyras said. “I look forward to representing our area and helping with the efforts of the Ohio Craft Brewers Association of promoting, diversifying, and preserving our industry.”

The newly elected board members will start their two-year terms on Aug. 1 to oversee the Ohio Craft Brewers Association’s education, marketing and advocacy efforts.

“Our board of directors represents the diversity of small businesses that make up Ohio’s craft
brewing industry,” said Mary MacDonald, executive director of the Ohio Craft Brewers
Association, in a statement. “From established breweries who rely on wholesale distributors to move their products across multiple regions to smaller breweries poised to grow and expand in the market, reform of franchise law will benefit the entirety of our industry.”
