YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) — Jury selection is underway in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court in the case of a city man accused of rape.

Sergio Gonzalez , 23, faces four counts of rape, two of them first-degree felonies. He is on trial before Judge John Durkin.

Gonzalez was originally indicted in May 2022 but never showed up for his arraignment. He was not found until June, when he was arrested by Canfield police during a traffic stop. He was arraigned in common pleas court shortly after his arrest and is in the county jail in lieu of $250,000 bond.

Gonzalez is charged with raping a person December 2017 to June 2018 who was 11 years old at the time.

Gonzalez was originally charged as a juvenile in April 2022 but the case was then transferred to common pleas court.
