YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) — The Butler Institute of American Art is getting ready to share with the Youngstown community artwork by Claude Monet.

An announcement from the museum Tuesday says the oil painting from 1903 will be on display until September 8 in the Butler’s Watson Gallery on the main level. It is part of the American Impressionists collection.

The artwork, called “Nympheas (Waterlilies),” is a reciprocal loan from The Dayton Art Institute, which received Edward Hopper’s “Pennsylvania Coal Town” in exchange.

“The painting is inspired by the artist’s magnificent gardens at Giverny,” says Lou Zona, museum executive director. “Claude Monet is often called the ‘Father of Impressionism.’ The Impressionists were considered to be the first modern artists.”
