YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Humane agents with Animal Charity of Ohio were called to a home on Youngstown’s South Side Wednesday afternoon where 14 animals were rescued.
Initially, agents were called to the home on East Lucius Avenue, in Youngstown for a dog in poor condition but they ended up removing 14 animals ranging from dogs and cats to snakes and rats, and even roosters.
“It was determined that the home was not livable for humans or animals. We did remove 14 animals from the home,” said Jane MacMurchy with Animal Charity of Ohio.
“There was an overwhelming coverage of urine throughout the home, and the home itself — the structure of the home was not safe,” she said.
MacMurchy says every bird is missing feathers, every animal is dehydrated and the dogs are in very poor condition.
“Unfortunately, two of the dogs are in really bad condition. You can’t even tell the one is a dog, it’s so matted,” she said.
One of the dogs also has a severe ear infection. All animals are currently being treated at Animal Charity.
This was Animal Charuty’s first hoarding case since opening their new building. The big difference now is the new facility has a better space for the farm animals.
“For the first time ever, we are able to house the roosters and the bantam outside — outdoor and proper enclosures that they should be kept in — and not kept in a small pen in a basement that they were living within that house,” MacMurchy said.
Charges are pending. If you wish to help, visit Animal Charity’s website.
