YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Election season will be here before you know it and the Public Library of Youngstown & Mahoning County will be on the ballot, asking voters to support the renewal of a levy.

Commissioners gave the green light for the ballot measure Thursday morning.

The library has two primary sources of funding — state funding and a local property tax levy.

The measure on the ballot wouldn’t cost taxpayers any more money because it’s a renewal.

It would generate about $8 million worth of revenue for the library system.

“We do everything we can to be fiscally responsible. We save up money before we do major construction projects so we don’t have to pay interest with taxpayer dollars. We can put it all back into the community with great programs and great jobs for local residents,” said Aimee Fifarek, executive director of the Public Library of Youngstown & Mahoning County.

The levy costs Mahoning County homeowners $6.86 a month for every $100,000 of real estate value.

It will be on the ballot this November.
