Better broadband service speeds up Perry County
Brightspeed, one of the nation’s leading fiber broadband builders, marked a significant milestone in its efforts to close the digital divide in Pennsylvania with the launch of its high-speed fiber internet service in Perry County. The event, celebrated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Aug. 21 in New Bloomfield, had key dignitaries including U.S. Congressman John Joyce, state Sen. Greg Rothman and state Rep. Perry Stambaugh in attendance.

DOVER, Ohio (Aug. 31) – The Saint Vincent College men’s golf team carded a team score of an even 300 in its opening round of the 2024-25 season at the Gatorade Collegiate Invitational, hosted by the College of Wooster. It was another high-scoring affair between Mt. Pleasant and Greensburg Central Catholic, and this year’s iteration took double overtime. Vikings quarterback Cole Chatfield found sophomore running back Stephen Predajna wide open in the right flat for a touchdown, and Predajna punched in the 2-point conversion for a 36-35 Mt. (St. Vincent Bearcat Challenge) The Lead: The 2024 volleyball season got under way with a trip to Latrobe (Pa.) to compete in the St. Vincent Bearcat Challenge. In the opener, the Green and Gold would find themselves tied 2-2 with the Barons. The fifth set was tied at 18-18 when HU picked up the final two points of the match to secure the 3-2 win. HU was unable to hold that momentum as Westminster jumped on HU early and took the tightly contested match, 3-0.
Greensburg Salem pulls away to rout Ligonier Valley, improves to 2-0
Greensburg Salem fell behind early for the second consecutive game. And for the second consecutive game, the Golden Lions roared from behind for a victory. Max Topper scored two touchdowns, and senior Kai Brunot rushed for 178 yards and a touchdown to lead Greensburg Salem (2-0) to a 43-14 nonconference victory against Ligonier Valley (1-1) on Friday at Offutt Field. It was victory 713 in school history.
Women's Volleyball Competes Well in First Day of Bearcat Challenge
LATROBE – it was quite a day for Pitt-Greensburg sophomore outside hitter Madison Friess as she recorded 26 kills over two matches, but it was not enough for the Bobcats to come out with a victory in day one of the Saint Vincent Bearcat Challenge. The Bobcats dropped their first match of the day to host Saint Vincent 3-1. The Bison of Bethany took the nightcap by a score of 3-0. It was a competitive match between the Bearcats and Bobcats as the first three sets were all withing four points. The Bearcats took sets one and three 25-21 while the Bobcats took set 2 25-23. The hosts finished off the visitors 25-19 in set four. Grace Bradley and Abigail Smulik both had double-digit assists while senior Alanna Mely had 20 digs in the match.
Women's Soccer Drops Physical Battle to Lycoming
GREENSBURG – The Pitt-Greensburg women's soccer team took Ridilla Field for the first time since 2022 and dropped a physical game to the Warriors of Lycoming by a score of 2-1. The Bobcats lone goal scorer was freshmanRiley Gesinski, who took just over 15 minutes to score her first collegiate goal for the Bobcats. Senior Keeper Paige John made five saves in the game, four coming in the first half. The Warriors out shot the Bobcats 13-4, and 7-3 in shots on goal. Lycoming also had 11 corner kicks in the match. The sides combined for 27 fouls and five cards in the match.
