OAKHURST, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – Roads are being covered in snow in places like Oakhurst, making it look beautiful -but also making it dangerous for drivers to stay out on the road.

The U.S. National Weather Services said snow is becoming more prominent in the Sierra Nevada and surrounding foothills on Thursday afternoon. Oakhurst with 2300 ft of snow and Mariposa with 2100 ft.

The California Highway Patrol urges residents to stay at home because the roads covered in the snow make it “extremely dangerous”. If they need to go out, CHP encourages residents to keep tire chains in their vehicles and warm clothing.

As of Thursday afternoon, officers say they, along with Caltrans officials, are trying to get the roads clear as soon as possible. They also say Deadwood is shut down for an unknown duration.
