FRESNO, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – A dog who was rescued due to being shot by a man has now been rescued again – this time by a non-profit animal rescue, from the risk of euthanization due to not being adopted, according to the founder of the nonprofit organization Fresno Furry Friends .

Officials say on March 22, they responded to a home on the 15000 block of E. Floral Ave. in Parlier regarding a report of animal abuse. The owner of the property reported someone tied a dog up to a fence on his property and shot it with a 9mm handgun .

Sheriff’s officials say the dog was found severely injured. The homeowner had a security camera on his property that captured the entire animal abuse. Officers with the Fresno Humane Animal Services (FHAS) transported the dog, which underwent successful surgery.

On May 31, officials announced the dog was available for adoption. However, since the announcement, the pup has still not found his forever home.

According to Mona Ahmed, the founder of the nonprofit organization Fresno Furry Friends , a social media post stated the dog was running out of time and was set for euthanization on July 19.

That’s when Ahmed says she stepped in. Ahmed’s organization saves unwanted animals who are close to euthanization by loading them into a caravan to take them from Fresno to out-of-state-no-kill shelters in places including Oregon, Nevada, Utah, Washington, and more.

She says her goal is to save the dogs and give them the second chance they deserve at finding a home, and to reduce the strain of the number of dogs in shelters.

The dog is set to go out and have a chance to find his new home in Mona’s next transport caravan on Friday, July 12.
