FRESNO, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – The Central California Food Bank is celebrating 32 years and Bank of America is triple matching donations to up to $30,000.

Focusing on ending hunger, the region’s largest non-profit organization serves over 300,000 people who are in need.

Chanel Ruiz-Mendez, the Director of Development for the Central California Food Bank says from Thursday, July 18 through Friday, July 19, for every dollar donated, Bank of America will be adding two more dollars.

“We could provide up to four meals and over the next two days that multiplies to 12 meals. Thank you to Bank of America,” Ruiz-Mendez said.

Ruiz-Mendez says the food bank lacks donations in the summer and the summertime can be difficult for hungry families.

“You know, during the school year, kids are getting breakfast and lunch and sometimes an after-school snack. But during the summer when they’re home, that’s just more mouths to feed and so expensive to fill the pantries these days,” Ruiz-Mendez said.

The money raised goes towards the Groceries2Go program, a feeding program that allows people with an appointment to pick up food and have it delivered right to their car.

“It really just helps put food on the table and kind of fill that, you know, food budget that a lot of people have,” Ruiz-Mendez said.
