REEDLEY, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – Kings Canyon Unified’s newest student support center will open in Reedley this week.

According to the school district, the new center is to support homeless and foster youth – as well as current and incoming migrant families entering Kings Canyon Unified.

District officials say the support center will be staffed by two social workers who will be available for walk-in appointments from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday. There will also be a dedicated social worker for students experiencing homelessness and those who are in the foster care system.

Students will also have access to new clothing, backpacks and hygiene kits. District officials say there will also be laundry detergent and food boxes containing dried goods made available.

“The Student Support Center is not just a building; it is a lifeline for many of our students and their families,” Kings Canyon Unified Superintendent John Campbell said. “The services we will provide here will make a big difference in the lives of our students, many of whom are in very vulnerable circumstances.”

The ribbon-cutting ceremony will be on Friday, Aug. 16 at the Kings Canyon Unified School District Student Support Center at 1801 10th Street in Reedley.
