FRESNO, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – A 13-year-old has been arrested following threats made during a video call, where the teen said he would ‘shoot up’ a middle school today in Visalia, according to the Visalia Police Department.

Officials say they received information Thursday evening that a video call showed a student threatening to ‘shoot up’ Ridgeview Middle School in Visalia on Friday, August 16.

Visalia Police Detectives and Youth Service Officers immediately began an investigation and arrested the teen at his home.

According to a post on Facebook by Visalia Watchdog , parents received a notice today notifying them of the incident and that there would be ‘additional security’ present at the school.

According to officials, Detectives found no additional safety threats toward students, staff, or the campus.

The Visalia Police Department warns threats made on social media are unacceptable and will be
met with ‘serious’ consequences. Officials say parents are urged to discuss the implications of
posting such threats and to understand that all threats will be taken seriously.

Visalia PD would like to remind everyone to always say something if you see something.
