Merced robotics team recognized at California State Capitol

MERCED COUNTY, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – The robotics team at the Le Grand Union Elementary School District was recognized during a visit to the California State Capitol, officials announced on Monday.

The robotics team received an invitation to the California State Capitol by Senator Josh Newman. They were invited to support Senate Resolution 106, which designates October as Intellectual Property Month to recognize the importance of intellectual property as a catalyst for innovation and protection of creative works, according to officials.

During Aug. 15 visit, officials with the district say Newman commended them for their hard work and contributions to the field of robotics and were recognized for their dedication to the principles of innovation and intellectual property.

Something that excited the young robotics enthusiasts, officials say, was meeting “Spot,” the cutting-edge robotic dog from Boston Dynamics. This robot provided a glimpse into the future of robotics technology to the team.

“Our robotics team’s invitation to the Capitol is a testament to their hard work, creativity, and commitment to innovation. It is an honor for our district to be part of such an important initiative that celebrates intellectual property and the role it plays in our society,” said Le Grand Union Elementary School District Superintendent Scott Borba.

This visit also emphasized the important role STEM education plays in preparing students for the future.
