FRESNO, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – Fresno Police is investigating two homicides that took place over the weekend, taking the lives of two young men.

Now, the Fresno Police Department is asking the public to come forward with any information that will lead to two separate arrests.

“We are currently looking for video and are actually looking for witnesses that may have further information at this case, but as you can imagine, at that time of the morning, we’re having some difficulty with this case,” said Fresno Lt. Paul Cervantes.

Saturday around 1 a.m., the Southwest Policing District responded to a six-round shot spotter alert, in the area of Santa Clara and B Street.

IDENTIFIED: Man found dead in front of Fresno apartment complex

A witness told police that Christopher Worthy, 21, was lying in front of an apartment complex with gunshot wounds. Worthy was unresponsive.

“Despite lifesaving measures and the fact that he was transported to CMRC, Mr. Worthy was pronounced deceased at approximately 30 minutes after the initial call for service,” Lt. Cervantes shared.

Police learned that there was an argument before the shooting.

“Mr. Worthy does have a criminal history, he is a member of a validated criminal street gang,” added Cervantes.

The second homicide occurred Sunday after midnight near Martin Ray Reilly Park. There, police found 23-year-old Jared Rogers who was bloody and had a broken arm.

IDENTIFIED: Man dead after stabbing near Fresno park

“Sustained multiple stab wounds to his upper torso area,” explained Cervantes.

    Rogers died from his injuries.

The homicide unit found a witness who described the suspect as a Hispanic male in his 30s.

“Approximately 5’3 to 5’4, a thin build wearing a shiny blue shirt, jeans, and glasses,” said Cervantes.

Cervantes said Rogers was on probation for assault with a deadly weapon and is currently unhoused.

“Those cases are always challenging for the fact that these individuals, they’re just disenfranchised from our community, sometimes encountering or locating witnesses make it very difficult for us,” Cervantes added.

Year to date, there have been 20 murders in the City of Fresno. Last year at this same time there were 21.

Fresno Police has also seen a 42% decrease in shootings overall.
