FRESNO, Calif. ( KGPE ) – If you think it has been a hot summer, you’re right. We’ve had numerous heat waves, with many of our triple-digit stretches bringing temperatures above 110 degrees. There is relief on the way, and the coolest temperatures that the Central Valley has felt in a couple of months will arrive by the end of the work week.

So far this summer, Fresno has recorded 47 triple-digit days. On average, there are 38 triple-digit days in a season. Over half of the triple-digit days this year have been at or above 105 degrees, and almost a fifth of them have been at or above 110 degrees.

We’ve been getting a break from the triple-digit heat. Notice that our current 100-degree stretch sits at 0 days. The longest stretch of consecutive triple digits this season is 16 days. The record in Fresno is 30 days in a row of triple digits, set in 2018.

This is our longest stretch without a 100-degree day since our first triple-digit day on June 5.

During this break, high temperatures have been fairly seasonable, and in the 90s. Here’s a recap of the past 10 days.

We have a big cool-down heading our way for the rest of the week. By Thursday, highs will be near 90 degrees. By Friday, highs will be in the low 80s. Some of the Valley hasn’t felt temperatures in the 80s in over two months.

Don’t get too comfortable with the cooler temperatures. Highs will be on the rise again next week, and we will feel triple digits return by the middle of the week.
