CLOVIS, CA – In football’s modern era, it pays to have an elite Quarterback commanding your offense.

For Clovis High, Junior, Deagan Rose has helped lead the Cougars back to their winning ways through a deadly passing attack which put up almost 3,000 yards in just his Sophomore season.

“Yeah it was the best decision I made was getting him going as a freshman,” said Clovis head coach Aaron Wilkins. “Now we’ve grown together, he’s seen our program wins when it’s at its lowest and he’s seen our program as it gets better. And hopefully he can help take us to the highest point. This program has been in a long time.”

With team success, more recruiting attention came Rose’s way, garnering looks from blue-bloods around the country.

“You know, I mean, schools from everywhere,” said Wilkins. “SEC, ACC, Big Ten. Yeah, it was just crazy. It was every day a phone call goes, We want to come watch and throw. We want to come watch him do this. I mean, it was nuts.”

Ultimately, Rose chose to keep his talents on the west coast, committing to the Beavers of Oregon State.

“Oregon State? The coaching staff, for sure. Immediately that we clicked felt like family,” said Rose. “You know, my dad wanted me to commit on the spot. It was just perfect for me, you know? I grew up wanting to play baseball there as a kid. Then obviously getting recruited as football, it just felt like the right time, right place.”

With his commitment, the mentality going into the 2024 season stays just as aggressive with Rose looking to continue to grow his game on and off the field.

“Obviously, the goal is win every game. That’s my expectation,” said Rose. “That’s his expectation as well as should be Everybody on this team, the expectation and I think we can get it done this year. You know, I’m trying my best to be more vocal. You know, the last two years I’ve been a younger guy. You know, I’m looking up to these guys now. We got younger guys on the team looking up to me, so I’m just trying to be vocal and trying to be a leader and a brother at the same time. You all these guys, to be able to come up to me and talk to me about anything.”
