FRESNO, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – The people of Fresno are invited to learn about California’s natural resources at the San Joaquin River this weekend.

The Coexist with Wildlife Day on Saturday is hosted by the Fresno Chaffee Zoo and the San Joaquin River Parkway and Conservation Trust.

Starting at 7 a.m., river-goers can take part in a two-hour mini BioBlitz, a scavenger hunt where participants look for and record as many species as possible within the area. The BioBlitz aims to teach people about the flora and fauna that call the San Joaquin River home.

From 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., event-goers are invited to join a hands-on activity to restore the natural environment. Food trucks, free ice cream and popsicles will be on-site between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Those who take part in the first two phases of the event will receive tickets to be entered into a noon drawing for prizes. Those interested in attending can arrive at any time between 7 a.m. and 1 p.m. Parking will be available near Coke Hallowell Center For River Studies at 11605 Old Friant Road.

The event is free, but registration is required. To register, visit the Coexist with Wildlife California online .
