Garbage truck catches fire in Fresno

FRESNO, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – Fresno firefighters say the quick thinking and training of a driver prevented further damage to a garbage truck after the vehicle caught on fire on Thursday.

Fire officials say they received a call about 1:30 p.m. on Thursday regarding a garbage truck on fire.

While on his route, the driver noticed smoke coming from the back of his truck. Fire officials say with “quick thinking and training just that morning”, he was able to safely drive to an open lot and dump the load, further preventing any damage to the truck.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire.

The cause of the fire is still unknown at this time.
