HANFORD, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – A 72-year-old woman has died after the car she was driving crashed into a pine tree in Kings County, the California Highway Patrol said.

CHP responded to a traffic collision north of Hanford on Friday afternoon. A 72-year-old woman was traveling eastbound on Lacey Boulevard, east of Highway 41, in a Toyota Corolla at around 1:45 p.m.

For unknown reasons, investigators say her vehicle veered off the right shoulder, causing her to then overcorrect to the left, turn back to the right, and end up leaving the roadway and crashing into a tree.

Officers say the woman’s vehicle overturned onto the driver’s side where it came to rest. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

CHP says drugs and/or alcohol do not appear to be a factor in this crash.

This is an ongoing investigation. The identity of the woman has not been released.
