FIREBAUGH, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – The two people who died after crashing into a parked trailer Saturday morning in Firebaugh have been identified by the Fresno County Coroner’s Office.

According to Los Banos CHP, who responded to the scene, the crash happened around 6 a.m. on Aug. 31 in the area of Santa Fe Grade and W. Shaw Avenue in Firebaugh.

CHP says a male driver, accompanied by a woman passenger, was in a 2023 Yamaha Raptor Quad driving at a high rate of speed when they crashed into the right rear of a parked trailer.

Officials say both riders, identified by the coroner’s office as 24-year-old Silvestre Sandoval Romo of Mendota and 22-year-old Guadalupe Ruiz Pina, were not restrained and were not wearing helmets.

CHP says the impact of the crash caused both Romo and Pina to be ejected from the Yamaha.

According to officers, both were pronounced deceased on the scene.

It is unknown if alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash. This is an ongoing investigation.
