Body recovered from Merced County canal

MERCED COUNTY, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – An investigation has begun after a body was found in a canal just outside of Merced early Wednesday morning, according to the Merced County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies say just before 8 a.m. deputies responded to Highway 59 near Reilly Road for reports of a body found in a canal.

Upon arrival, responding units reported an unidentifiable adult body floating in the canal.

Deputies were able to recover the body from the water; the victim was taken to the Merced County Coroner’s Office for further evaluation.

Investigators report there is no information currently regarding how long the body was in the canal or if foul play was a factor.

The name of the victim has not been officially released.
