Los Banos animal shelter to shut down wildlife rescue

LOS BANOS, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – An animal shelter in Los Banos says they are closing the wildlife portion of their rescue due to lack of funding and an excess of harassment.

Creepy Critters Rescue says they have not received funding for an entire year. They also say their volunteers have been treated poorly by many people who have sought their help.

“To protect the safety of our staff and the integrity of our reptile rescue, we are having to make this hard decision to close our wildlife department,” a social media post by the shelter reads.

The rescue says they will be returning to their original focus, protecting exotic reptiles in the pet trade. Those who need wildlife assistance are encouraged to contact the Stanislaus Wildlife Center .
