Corcoran prison inmate attacks correctional officer, CDCR says

CORCORAN, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – An investigation is underway after the attempted homicide of an officer with the California State Prison in Corcoran, the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitations announced Wednesday.

Officials report on Tuesday around 4:10 p.m. inmate 30-year-old Bobby Dominguez allegedly reached through the bars of a shower door and attacked a correctional officer.

The CDCR says staff immediately responded and transported the officer around 4:43 p.m. to an outside medical facility. He was treated and eventually released that evening.

Investigators say they located an inmate-manufactured weapon at the scene. Dominguez was transferred to California Health Care Facility as CDCR investigates the incident.

CDCR reports Dominguez has an extensive history of crime while incarcerated. Most recently, he was received from Monterey County in June 2023 after being sentenced to six years for assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer as a second striker.

Officials report Dominguez was initially received from LA County in April 2014 after being sentenced to four years for inflicting traumatic injuries on a cohabitant.

While incarcerated in June 2016, CDCR reports Dominguez was sentenced to five years for an in-prison offense of assault with a deadly weapon or force to cause great bodily injury by an incarcerated person. A year later he was sentenced to one year for an in-prison offense of battery on a non-prisoner.

The case reported on Wednesday has been referred to the Kings County District Attorney’s Office for possible felony prosecution.
