FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – Watermelons caused traffic to back up on a major freeway after a semi-truck carrying the fruit turned over Thursday evening, California Highway Patrol said.

According to CHP, the truck transporting the watermelons turned over on I-5’s southbound lane, south of Jayne Avenue, near Coalinga.

Officers say travelers in the area could expect delays on Thursday night while their Coalinga officers worked to clean up the spill. Caltrans assisted with traffic control in the area while the watermelons were picked up.

On Thursday just before 11 p.m., Caltrans said the traffic incident on southbound I-5 at Jayne Avenue involved multiple overturned semi-trucks.

The cause of the crash has not yet been released, but at this time, no driver injuries have been reported by CHP.
