FRESNO, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – The man killed after crashing into a tree following a fight in Fresno has been identified by the Fresno County Coroner’s Office.

Upon arrival, investigators say they learned a fight had broken out and a Gutierrez-Vasquez had pulled out a gun and left the scene, speeding away in a 2017 Honda Accord.

While leaving the scene, officers say the man was followed by a police helicopter. The Honda was traveling at a high rate of speed westbound on Sierra Avenue, west of Forkner Avenue, when the vehicle made an unsafe turning movement as it traveled on the north dirt shoulder, colliding with several trash cans.

According to the CHP, the Honda crossed the intersection at Sequoia Avenue and struck a street sign. It then continued in a northerly direction and finally struck a tree and came to a stop.

Officers say they found the driver unresponsive and Jorge Gutierrez-Vasquez was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers say a handgun and ammunition were located inside the vehicle. The CHP has since taken over the investigation.
