TULARE COUNTY, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – A home and several vehicles were destroyed in a fire that ignited just outside of Woodlake late Sunday afternoon, the Tulare County Fire Department announced.

Firefighters responded to a home near Avenue 340 and Road 222 around 4:30 p.m. where they say a detached garage was fully engulfed in flames next to a 1,000-square-foot residence.

When units initially arrived, they reported loud popping sounds thought to be gunshots. These sounds were later determined to have come from aerosol cans in the garage.

Crews say prevailing winds moved the fire from the northwest to the northeast part of the property. In total, the fire burned 3.5 acres.

As a result, investigators report the home and its detached garage were complete losses, along with the vehicles in the garage; an RV trailer and four passenger vehicles.

Additionally, firefighters say several outhouses were destroyed and a neighboring residence and four carports received minor damage.

And while a house was lost, investigators say no one was displaced, however Red Cross has been contacted. No injuries were reported and none of the surrounding livestock were hurt.

Tulare County Fire says about 10 units responded to the scene between water tenders and engines— two of which were from Orange Cove headed to assist the Coffee Pot Fire .

The cause of the fire is under investigation but investigators do not believe arson is involved.
