FRESNO, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – Several people were injured after a teen crashed head-on into a Toyota near the town of Firebaugh, according to the California Highway Patrol.

CHP says at 12:25 am, Sunday officers responded to a crash involving two vehicles in the area of Nees and Oxford avenues.

Investigators say a 17-year-old boy was driving a 2008 Chevrolet Tahoe westbound on Nees Avenue at a stated speed of 60 miles per hour.

At the same time, CHP says a 21-year-old driving a 2014 Toyota Sienna eastbound, approaching the Chevrolet Tahoe, at a stated speed of 58 miles per hour.

CHP says, for reasons unknown, the teen veered into the opposite lane and collided head-on with the Toyota.

The drivers and occupants of both vehicles were wearing seatbelts and were transported to a local hospital.

my heart goes out to the families of these kids... it's very dark on those roads, and unfortunately people do not turn down their brights to regular headlights for on coming traffic and that can cause people to veer too close to the other car not wanting to get too close to the side of the roads because you cannot see from the other car's headlights being so bright. I'm wondering if that's what happened here :( it's important to turn the brights down when approaching oncoming cars, but many people do not, even if you flash your brights at them to ask them to do so...
