FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – As the Boone Fire burns through southern Fresno County, crews are being shuttled via helicopter as flames creep through rugged terrain.

Since the Boone Fire first ignited at the beginning of September, Cal Fire reports it has burned 17,766 acres with just 34% containment as of Monday morning.

Crews report as they work to strengthen control lines and establish new perimeters, the fire has mainly crept and smoldered through rugged terrain, making it difficult to reach.

To combat this, Cal Fire says they are shuttling firefighters via helicopter into the northwest remote area to construct containment lines. Through this air shuttle, crews can avoid hikes through steep, rugged terrain in the fire zones that are more susceptible to accidents.

A live map from Fresno County showing the evacuation orders can be viewed below:

According to the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office on Monday afternoon, evacuation orders remain for zones: P12C, P21C and P22C. People living in zones P11A, P12A, P13A, P21 and P22A can return home.
