MADERA, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – A video posted by the Madera Uncensored Instagram page showed a female food vendor being forcibly escorted away from The Commons parking lot at the Madera District Fair.

Though the video did not have audio, the visuals raised concerns with some audiences who claimed the forcible eviction was uncalled for.

In a statement to YourCentralValley.com, Madera Police said “one of our code enforcement officers gave the person in the video multiple warnings, but they would leave, then return a short time later.”

According to officials, after exhausting multiple warnings and voluntary compliance options, the vendor was issued a citation. The vendor attempted to flee at that point, first from a code enforcement officer, then from a Madera Police Sergeant, who is seen in the video.

The sergeant detained the woman, she was issued a citation and was released from the scene with her cart.

Officials say vendors can go through Madera County Public Health and the City to obtain the proper licenses. Most of the vendors circling the fairgrounds entrance were from out of town and were completely unlicensed according to Madera police.

There isn’t an exclusivity deal with properties that don’t belong to the fairgrounds, but vendors would need permission from whoever owned that property.
