TULARE COUNTY, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – If you drive along Highway 99 in Visalia, the Tulare County Fire Department says you may see smoke for the next couple of days.

Firefighters say around 4:30 a.m. Monday they responded to Avenue 296 and Highway 99 where they found a pile of composting material on fire.

Crews say Wood Industries in Visalia, the company whose lot the fire originated in, advised firefighters that they had proper equipment on site to extinguish the fire and took over the incident.

Tulare County Fire says as the business extinguishes the smoldering pile of composting material, smoke will continue to be present and smolder for a while.

Crews say the facility hopes to have the fire out within the next couple of days. All TCFD units have been released.

The fire department advised the public they might see smoke as they travel through the area.
