VISALIA, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – A mobility course unlike any other in the state opened in Visalia on Monday to help patients regain their independence by learning how to maneuver through various types of terrain.

The new practice area at Kaweah Health Rehabilitation Hospital features river rock, gravel, brick walkways, flagstone, pebbles, crushed rock, turf, curbs, and various ramps.

Lindsey Busfield with Maison Law Accident and Injury says this is the only facility in California where patients can go out and have a real-world application for practicing their mobility and recovery on different types of surfaces.

New treatment for common but deadly heart condition now available in Fresno

“So many people, after they have suffered a significant injury or trauma, are stuck inside their homes because they’re afraid to go back out and navigate because they’re tripping and falling,” she said. “This not only gives them the physical ability to navigate these different terrains, but it also gives them the confidence that they’re not afraid to leave their homes.”

The hospital says the new course was constructed with funding from Maison Law Accident and Injury Lawyers.
