VISALIA, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – A message about a supposed school shooting set to take place during a fire drill is a hoax and not genuine, the Visalia Police Department announced on Thursday.

In a community alert sent by officers, the message reveals that numerous calls have been received about “alarming messages” circulating on social media about a potential shooting during a fire drill.

The police department wrote in all capital letters, “THIS IS A HOAX,” on the next line of the message, adding that both Visalia and Tulare Police officers are investigating the source of the threat.

Students and parents are encouraged not to share the messages about threats, but instead report them to Visalia Police.
