MERCED, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – A man has been arrested following a crash into a utility pole in Merced County, the California Highway Patrol said on Thursday.

CHP posted on social media that an officer had responded to a solo vehicle crash, where the driver allowed their vehicle to leave the roadway and collide with the utility pole.

After the crash, CHP says that the officer spoke with the driver and conducted field sobriety tests. The officer determined that the driver was under the influence and the driver was arrested.

According to CHP, no one else was involved in the crash.

CHP says crashes like this are avoidable, and that impaired driving puts other lives in danger.
