FRESNO, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – Following a series of school shooting threats directed at several Fresno-area schools earlier this month, the city’s police department announced on Tuesday that even more arrests have been made.

The Fresno Police Department has revealed several arrests this school year to highlight that threats will be taken seriously.

Recent school shooting threats seen around the Central Valley, why?

According to the department, Fresno Police have arrested children as old as 17 years and as young as 12 years for school shooting threats.

    Arrests include:

    • A 14-year-old student following a Sept. 5 threat directed at Ahwanee Middle School
    • A 13-year-old student following a Sept. 10 threat directed at Scandinavian Middle School
    • A 13-year-old student following a Sept. 13 threat to shoot his teacher (after being told to put his phone away). The specific school was not identified.
    • A 17-year-old student following a Sept. 17 threat directed at Justin Garza High School.
    • A 13-year-old student following a Sept. 23 shooting threat at Tehipite Middle School
    • A 12-year-old student following a Sept. 23 shooting threat at Glacier Point Middle School

Though most of the reported shooting threats have been aimed at the entire school, one reported school shooting threat was made at a specific teacher who asked a 13-year-old student to put the student’s phone away.

On social media, Fresno Police say all threats were made to harm students – regardless of whether the suspect intended to carry out the act.

Fresno Police ask that anyone who is made aware of any such threats report them, not repost them, and contact them at 559-621-7000.
