While on the scene, officers say they were able to generate information that led them to the location of the involved suspect and his vehicle, which had fled the original collision scene. It was determined the driver, identified as 39-year-old Roberto Ramos, was under the influence. He was found and arrested in connection with the case.

According to police, it was determined during the booking process that Ramos was an employee of the City of Selma’s Public Works Departments. He was not working at the time of the collision and was in his personal vehicle. He was booked into the Fresno County Jail on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter, hit-and-run resulting in death, DUI, and several other charges.
