TULARE, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – A hit-and-run driver struck and killed an 83-year-old Tulare man Wednesday morning, and Tulare Police officers are now searching for that driver.

Police say at around 5 a.m. officers responded to the area of Bardsley Avenue and Cardoza Street for a person lying in the road.

When officers arrived they found an unresponsive man in the roadway. The man was taken to a nearby hospital where he later died.

Investigators say they believe the man was walking north and was struck by the vehicle after attempting to cross the street. The driver of the vehicle fled the scene before police arrived.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact the Tulare Police Department.
