TULARE COUNTY, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – A person was hit and killed in Tulare County on Friday while attempting to clear debris in the intersection, according to the California Highway Patrol.

CHP says at around 6 a.m., officers responded to a vehicle versus pedestrian crash on Highway 63 at Avenue 392, south of Cutler.

According to investigators, there was a previous crash in the area that left vehicle debris on the roadway. Minutes later, an unknown person was traveling southbound on Highway 63 when they saw the debris, parked their vehicle, and attempted to clean it.

CHP says a 2016 Toyota, driving northbound on Highway 63, did not see the pedestrian in the roadway and hit them. The driver of the Toyota remained on the scene and rendered first aid to the pedestrian. However, the pedestrian died at the scene.

Alcohol and/or drugs were not determined to be a factor in this crash, CHP says. Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to contact the California Highway Patrol Visalia Area Office at 559-734-6767.
