FRESNO, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – Do you like pickled pepper? This stand at the Big Fresno Fair has the cure to your craving for pickles and Dr. Pepper.

Chicken Charlie’s is renowned for their deep-fried concoctions and crazy food combinations that oddly satisfy— and this year is no different.

This year’s lineup features sweet and savory palates like the funnel cake hot honey chicken sandwich.

“We replaced the bun with the funnel cake and hot honey on top— delicious,” said Charlie Boghosian, owner of Chicken Charlie’s. “We did southern California and it was a huge hit. At the LA fair, it was our third best-seller.”

Fan favorites also make a return including bacon-wrapped pickles, Maui chicken, fried frog legs, and much more.

“Frog legs, one of my favorite— Fresno loves frog legs,” Boghosian said.

Anyone craving a corn dog can find their favorite with a twist at the Korean Shack, formerly known as Monster Dog.

Aside from the original corndogs, Korean Shack will also feature the Sweet Dragon, Korean Tater, Flamin Korean, and the Original Dragon Crunch— all Korean-style corndogs.

“The Korean corn dog batter is a lot thinner and it’s a lot crispier. It has rice flour so it becomes crispier than traditional corn dog batter,” said Will Von Pertz, manager at Korean Shack.

Wetzel’s Pretzels will also be making an appearance at the fair for the first time, providing an option for those whose palate craves an original favorite, a plain pretzel.

“I like the original pretzel. I don’t know why but I like that original pretzel with a little bit of salt. And the people love the pizza pretzel— but I like the original. The taste for me is just the best,” said Lola Ramirez, owner of a Wetzel’s Pretzels.

The Big Fresno Fair will open its doors at 4 p.m. Wednesday and last until Oct. 14. Tickets can be purchased online or at the gates of the Fresno Fairgrounds on Chance and Butler avenues.
